Laparoscopy
What is Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy is an advanced, minimally invasive technique that plays a vital role in diagnosing and treating fertility-related conditions. At EVA IVF & women’s Centre, we use this modern surgical approach to identify reproductive issues with precision, while ensuring patient comfort, faster recovery, and minimal scarring. By addressing underlying concerns such as blocked tubes or endometriosis, laparoscopy can significantly improve the chances of natural conception or assisted pregnancy treatments.
Understanding Laparoscopy
Laparoscopy is a specialised surgical procedure where a thin tube fitted with a camera (laparoscope) is carefully inserted into the abdomen through a tiny incision. This gives doctors a clear, real-time view of the pelvic organs.
For fertility care, laparoscopy helps in diagnosing and treating conditions such as:
-
Endometriosis
-
Ovarian cysts
-
Fibroids
-
Pelvic adhesions
-
Blocked fallopian tubes
It is often recommended when other tests like ultrasound or blood work are not conclusive, or when surgical correction is needed to restore fertility health.

How the Procedure Works

At EVA Fertility Clinic, laparoscopy is performed under general anaesthesia to ensure complete comfort. Here’s how it typically proceeds:
-
Small Incision – A tiny cut is made near the belly button to insert the laparoscope.
-
Abdominal Inflation – Gentle carbon dioxide gas is introduced to expand the abdomen, giving doctors better visibility.
-
High-Definition Visualisation – The laparoscope transmits clear images of the reproductive organs, guiding accurate diagnosis or treatment.
-
Additional Instruments (if needed) – Small incisions may be made to insert instruments for removing cysts, fibroids, or adhesions.
-
Completion – Once the procedure is finished, instruments are withdrawn, the gas is released, and the incision is closed with minimal scarring.
When Do Doctors Suggest Laparoscopy?
Laparoscopy may be advised if:
-
You have symptoms of endometriosis, including pelvic pain or irregular periods.
-
Imaging tests indicate fibroids, cysts, or uterine anomalies.
-
There’s a history of pelvic infections, surgeries, or adhesions that may affect fertility.
-
Fallopian tube blockages are suspected and need both confirmation and treatment.
