In vitro fertilization (IVF) is a medical procedure that can lead to pregnancy. It is used to treat infertility, which is the inability to conceive after at least a year of trying for most couples. IVF involves the fertilization of an egg by sperm outside the body in a laboratory. The fertilized egg is then transferred to the uterus. IVF can be used with a couple’s own eggs and sperm or with eggs, sperm, or embryos from a donor. The success rate of IVF varies between 60 to 90% depending on individual  factors such as age and cause of infertility.
